I fell in love with Camille Roskelley’s Swoon quilt when Ms Midge posted her version on a Facebook group page last year some time. I love the fabrics Melissa has used as well as her fussy cutting, and the block intrigued me – the contrasts that are created within each block combine to create a quilt that could be girly or a masculine depending on which fabrics you use.
I found two fat quarter bundles I wanted to use almost straight away (foolishly I don’t have a picture of them – durr!) but for one reason or another I’ve been sitting on this project for quite sometime. They are lovely florals – tulips, daisies and pansies in pinks, yellows and purples with matching tone-on-tones. A couple of months ago I realised it’s time to simply dig in and start. And so I did. Last night I completed the second of the blocks – the gorgeous tulips which will be the centre block of my quilt.
This is the first one I worked on. I can see the improvement in point matching which pleases me.
Here they are together:
I’m participating in Freshly Pieced’s WIP Wednesday and noticed that there are two other Swoon blocks. I love the way different quilters can interpret the one design. Debbie at Makes My Heart Sing has used some lovely calm blues in her block; I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of her blocks. Kirsten at Gemini Stitches has made a very bright block using a number of Bonnie and Camille fabrics. She, like me, is just a little bit excited to be going to one of Camille’s workshops in Australia next month where we will be working on the Red Letter Day quilt. I need to start thinking about pulling fabric for that one. One of my ideas is to use matching fabrics to Swoon above – I have another set of FQs so it’s a possibility. Or, I could do something completely different….
Almost finally, I’m also linking up to the Aussie WIP Wednesday for the first time this week – thank you Rachel for organising our very own linky party over this side of the world. 🙂
Finally, back to Ms Midge. You must see what she’s working on this week – go take a look.
Goodness me, I’ve blogged twice this week! And I have another blog post up my sleeve for later in the week so please do pop by for more pics and ramblings.
