Today is my first day linking up with Freshly Pieced‘s WIP Wednesday. I got a bit excited last night and started a new quilt, even though I have been very good in getting some older WIPs finished. This new project is May Chappell‘s Designer Star quilt. I saw this when I was looking around for inspiration the other day and immediately knew that I had to make it with some big bold florals I have been collecting. I spent yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon cutting all my squares and agonising over layout. Here’s what I came up with:
I’ve now pinned all the squares together and sewed some. Here’s how they’re looking at the moment on my cutting board:
One of the great things about WIP Wednesday is that you get to look at a lot of other creative peoples’ blogs. This week I’ve found Patch the Giraffe who is working on a fabulously bright Weathervane quilt. I love her colour placement; my favourite block is the pink and aqua one. If you are a fan of brights and white, go check her quilt out.
Cindy at Scraps of My Life is working on a layer cake sampler quilt along with another of my favourite combinations; aqua and red. I have some similar fabric in my stash and am storing away ideas for them. This might just be one!
Finally, I couldn’t go past Tina’s mini quilt at Seaside Stitches. She has made a disappearing thread wall hanging. Don’t we all know what it feels like when the thread runs out too early? Gah!!
It’s an overcast and dreary day here in Canberra today; Autumn has begun and so it’s starting to get slightly chilly. BUT the happy mail arrived today! I belong to a Facebook fabric swap group called Rainbow Fabric Fun. Today I received my 2½” strip parcel of rainbow brights and whites.
I’m afraid the picture doesn’t do justice to the colours. There are some really lovely prints in there – I tried to pick a favourite but I couldn’t. If you’re in Australia and would like to join a really fun and friendly fabric swap group; come join us at Rainbow Fabric Fun; we’d love to have you.
